ABOUT
After earning a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree from Western Michigan University in 1980, a degree that was partially underwritten by the Ford Foundation, Patrick Jolly moved to Denver Colorado. Within 48 hours of arriving, he was on the handlebars of a jackhammer . His need for work was imperative and he found employment at an asphalt construction company at which he was a member of the construction crew. Within days of being hired he was given a raise, within a few months he was crew forman and within six months he was an estimator and selling services. Although there was demand for asphalt services in a booming Denver market and lucrative potentials in a young company, this was not how his vision for, or of, himself . After two years he quit and embarked on an unmarked path in the art business.
Finding salaried work in the fine art business was near impossible, however, commission only sales positions at galleries was an option. While exploring that option Patrick met a few people from California who were selling plates from two, recently broken, John James Audubon monographs, a First Royal Octavo Edition of the Birds of North America (1840 - 1844) and an Imperial Folio set of the Viviparous Qudrupeds of North America (1845 - 1848) Simultaneously with learning about Americana and the art of selling, he was doing odd jobs to make ends meet. Within a few years an art gallery, Parker Blake, emerged as the types of art being sold and clients expanded into corporate interests.
Parker Blake would ultimately find a niche market, the hospitality industry, and turn their focus in that direction. Patrick had no interest in corporate decorating so in 1988 he, amicably, left Parker Blake to start Patrick Jolly Fine Art an art advising and brokerage interest. 40 years after quitting the asphalt business and entering that art business, Patrick runs his art consulting business out of a modest office in the Colorado Building
